Mounted on a stereo card and issued by the Keystone View Company, this picture belongs to the stereograph craze that filled American parlors in the early twentieth century. Two nearly identical photographs viewed through a hand stereoscope gave scenes like this one, of children absorbed in play with their dolls, a striking sense of depth. The record dates the image to about 1919 and links it to Christmas, so it offers a glimpse of how holiday play was pictured in the years just after the First World War.
