The title turns on a pun that a turn-of-the-century audience would have caught at once: a man who loves a Mason can count on discretion, since Freemasons were known for oaths of secrecy. The caption card also files the picture under caricatures of Irishmen and Freemasons, two stock targets of comic publishing at the time. The copyright credit names Berdan Publishing Company, and the piece shows how fraternal life and ethnic stereotypes were turned into light entertainment around 1908.
