Fielder Jones, shown here as the manager of the St. Louis club in the Federal League, led a team in the rival major league that played only two seasons, 1914 and 1915. Jones had earlier guided the Chicago White Sox to the 1906 World Series title, and by 1915 he was trying to draw fans away from the established National and American Leagues. The George Grantham Bain Collection holds many glass negatives like this one, made by a photo agency that sold pictures of sports and news figures to newspapers. The record notes that its title comes from unverified data, so the team label and date are worth checking against other sources.
