Rather than a full figure in costume, this print is a close study of a young woman's head, with her hair spread loosely around her face so that it becomes the frame. Dated to about 1902 and credited to photographer Fritz W. Guerin, it reflects the period's taste for idealized portraits of women, often made to show off hair and fashionable looks. Similar tousled, flowing hair appeared in Gibson girl illustrations of the same years. The record rests on unverified caption card information, so the sitter and the occasion remain unknown.
