This photograph shows the Pan American Union building on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., while it was still going up. The building was financed largely by Andrew Carnegie and was meant to house the Pan American Union, an organization of American republics that shared offices and information in the capital. The library's record dates the picture to 1910, though that date comes from an old caption card and has not been independently verified. Even so, the scene fits the period, when the building was completed and the Union's presence in the city was taking shape.
