The line "The greatest mother" sets this lithograph apart, casting the American Red Cross as a maternal figure who asks for loyalty across yesterday, today and always. Printed in New York by Snyder & Black, the poster dates to about 1917, when the United States had recently entered the First World War and the Red Cross was running large membership and recruiting drives. Its subject headings point to the medical side of the war, where Red Cross nursing and relief work gave the organization much of its public appeal.
