Lombard Bridge, which crosses the Binnenalster in the heart of Hamburg, is the focus here, with the Alsterdamm running along the lake's edge beside it. The Binnenalster is the inner basin of the Alster, and its shoreline has long been one of the city's busiest promenades, lined with hotels and shops. The picture is a glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sent photographers out to record cities and news in the early 1900s. The record gives no date, so the exact year is unverified.
