Parenting appears here as a job with its own duties and worries, a framing that speaks directly to ordinary households during the Depression. Kreger's 1936 design was printed in silkscreen, the inexpensive, bold process used by the Works Progress Administration's poster units to make images for public buildings and community venues. The Federal theater Project's sponsorship links the poster to stage productions, and the record ties its subject to families in Illinois in the 1930s. A date stamp on the back, September 7, 1939, shows the sheet was still in circulation years after it was printed.
