The title names Wilhelm II, the German emperor, in exile, which would fit the period after his abdication in November 1918, when he left Germany for the Netherlands and eventually settled at Doorn. The record credits the work to someone named Eberlein, but the title comes from unverified Bain News Service data, so both the attribution and the scene should be read with some caution. Bain was a New York photo agency whose glass negatives recorded news figures and events in the early twentieth century, and this plate belongs to that news output.
