An early wide view of a ball game in Washington, D.C., this negative comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded the capital's streets, buildings and events in the early twentieth century. The record dates it between 1909 and 1940, a period when baseball drew large crowds to the city, including to Griffith Stadium, where the Washington Senators played from 1911. The title comes from the company's own unverified notes, so the exact ballpark and game remain uncertain. Nitrate film of this era is fragile, and the streaks and surface wear common to such negatives are worth noting when studying the image.
