Few festival posters of the period state their subject so plainly: this one announces the 14th International Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw, held October 28 to 30, 1971. The festival, which began in 1958, was one of the most important jazz events in Eastern Europe and gave Polish audiences rare access to visiting American and Western European musicians during the Cold War. Polish concert posters of the 1970s are prized for their inventive graphic design, and this color example by Tomasewski belongs to that tradition, with its record tagged for musical instruments as well as jazz.
