Ewing Field was a ballpark in San Francisco's Ingleside district, and this panoramic view from 1914 captures it in the same year the Federal League and the American and National Leagues were all competing for fans and players. Panoramic prints like this one were popular in the early twentieth century, when photographers stitched wide views of stadiums and crowds into long, folding images that let viewers take in the whole field at once. The wide frame shows how sparse the surrounding land still was, with open ground beyond the grandstands, a reminder of how the city's outer neighborhoods were only beginning to fill in.
