Owen D. Young, the lawyer and business executive whose name is written on this glass negative, was a leading figure in American industry in the early twentieth century. He rose to head General Electric and later helped build the Radio Corporation of America. The Bain News Service, a Manhattan agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of public figures, made this image, though the record does not give a date. Young later drew wider attention in 1929 as the namesake of the Young Plan, a proposal to restructure Germany's reparations payments after World War I.
