Rather than a photograph, this is a color halftone reproduction of a painting by Jean Leon Gerome Ferris, an American artist known for scenes of early colonial life. It depicts the autumn harvest gathering at Plymouth in 1621, when the Pilgrims shared a feast with members of the Wampanoag people, an event often cited as the root of the national Thanksgiving holiday. The print was issued around 1932 by The Foundation Press of Cleveland, Ohio, and it shows how widely such idealized scenes circulated in schoolbooks and homes in the early twentieth century.
