Few wartime appeals address women as directly as this one, which pairs the words "For the Safety of Womanhood" with the urging to "Help 'Till It Hurts." It was printed as a color lithograph in the April 1918 issue of *The Delineator*, the women's monthly published by Butterick, and it is credited to the artist Ker. By 1918 the United States had been at war for about a year, and magazines of this kind routinely carried appeals linking home-front giving and volunteer work to the protection of families. The poster is worth noticing for how it presents personal sacrifice as a duty to women themselves, not only an abstract patriotic obligation.
