A color poster promoting a free picture of the warship *Philadelphia*, offered with the *Philadelphia Sunday Press* for February 23, 1896, makes it a rare view of a newspaper's giveaway from the period. The ship was a steel cruiser built at the Cramp shipyard in Philadelphia and launched in 1889, so the city's civic pride gave the image its appeal. Newspapers in the 1890s often used such premiums to win readers in a crowded market, and the poster shows how a local paper pitched its Sunday edition to the public. Its bright printing also reflects the growing use of color lithography in commercial advertising of the era.
