Alice Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt, arrives at the East Gate here with Joanna Sturm, escorted by a White House social aide. The photograph was taken on June 12, 1971, the day Tricia Nixon, daughter of President Richard Nixon, married Edward Cox at the White House. Longworth, then in her eighties, had known several generations of presidential families in Washington, so her arrival links the Nixon wedding to the city's long social history. This official color print is part of the White House's own photographic record of the event.
