Peg O' My Heart was one of the most popular plays of the 1910s, J. Hartley Manners's comedy about a spirited Irish girl sent to live with an English family. This poster comes from the Federal theater Project, the New Deal program run by the Works Progress Administration from 1935 to 1939 to employ actors, writers and stage crews during the Depression. Its productions were inexpensive and aimed at towns that rarely saw live theater, so posters like this one were a main way the project reached ordinary audiences.
