The caption on this glass negative points to the American Line steamer *St. Paul*, a liner that carried passengers between New York and Southampton. Built by William Cramp & Sons in Philadelphia and launched in 1895, the ship was one of the large American-flagged vessels of its day, and it was later commissioned into the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, issued the negative, but no date is recorded, and the ship identification comes from unverified caption data, so it should be read with that caveat.
