The only identifying word on this glass negative is the surname "Kubelik," taken from the Bain News Service negative or caption card, and the record flags that attribution as unverified. The name most likely refers to Jan Kubelík, the Czech violinist who drew large audiences on concert tours of the United States in the early 1900s. Bain's New York staff photographed performers, politicians and other newsworthy people for newspapers and wire use, so a portrait of a touring musician fits the collection's usual subjects. No date survives in the record, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
