Where 7th and Locust streets meet in downtown St. Louis, the Ambassador theater once drew crowds to its marquee. This 1933 ink drawing belongs to the Architectural and Engineering collection, a body of plans that records buildings of the period in precise technical detail. The Skouras brothers, Greek immigrants who built a substantial theater business in St. Louis, ran houses like this one to make an evening at the movies feel like an occasion. The drawing shows how such a building was planned on paper before its interiors were finished.
