Few resorts in the Poconos carry as much history as the Buckwood Inn, pictured here with its grounds and the Shawnee Country Club beside the Delaware River in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. Charles Campbell Worthington, a pump manufacturer, built the inn around 1911 and laid out a golf course designed by A.W. Tillinghast, which drew well-to-do visitors from nearby cities. After bandleader Fred Waring bought the property in 1943, it was renamed the Shawnee Inn. The caption card places the town on the Hudson, which appears to be an error, and the automobiles in the undated print suggest the early decades of the twentieth century.
