Here Adolf Hitler is caricatured as a figure being crushed under the weight of production, a visual argument that American factory output would defeat the Axis. The poster was made around 1942 by G. Laivson for General Motors Corporation, and it reflects the wartime push to convert civilian manufacturing into arms and war materiel. Uncle Sam, the national personification of the United States, appears alongside the swastika in a bold color design typical of the home-front posters of the early 1940s. Its exhortation to "produce more for victory" speaks to the industrial mobilization that followed the country's entry into World War II.
