Cologne staged this war welfare exhibition in August and September 1916, and the color lithograph poster announces it with the German title printed across its face. Its subject was the care of soldiers disabled in the fighting, with particular attention to vocational training and retraining that could help them return to work. As the number of disabled veterans grew during the war, programs like these became a public concern, and fundraising exhibitions drew attention and money to the cause. The poster is credited to the artist Ilse Hoeltz and shows how civilian campaigns in wartime Germany addressed the long-term needs of injured veterans.
