Its English title, "Welcome home our gallant boys," sits beside German-language text that the record translates as "Commit your gold. Subscribe to the national defense. It is a duty. The Loan for Victory," which suggests the poster was meant for German-speaking Americans. The United States sold Liberty Loan bonds from 1917 to 1919 to pay for its part in the First World War, and posters like this one urged citizens to buy them. The Liberty cap and flags in the design were common patriotic symbols of the period. The print was made in 1918 by Hennegan Co., a lithography firm in Cincinnati, Ohio.
