The only identifying detail on record is the title, Lucy lounging, taken from unverified notes the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its caption card. The Bain agency was a New York news photo service founded by George Grantham Bain around the turn of the twentieth century, selling pictures to newspapers that needed images quickly. Its glass negatives, like this small plate, were the standard working format of that era and preserve a wide range of American life before roll film became common.
