Urging households to swap beef and bread for fish and garden vegetables, this poster asks Canadians to free up wheat, meat and fats for troops and Allies overseas. The Canada Food Board sponsored it, and the Toronto firm Rouse & Mann printed it in color by offset lithography. Posters like this were part of a wider wartime effort to cut domestic consumption so that scarce staples could be shipped to Europe, and they show how the war reached into everyday kitchens far from the front.
