First - last - and all the time" is the slogan that sets this poster apart, praising the 1st Infantry Division for being first into the fight and for staying in it to the end. The division was the first complete American division to reach France, arriving in 1917, and it fought through many of the war's major battles. This color lithograph belongs to the Service Series of wartime posters, which aimed to build public pride in the men serving overseas and support for the war effort at home.
