This sheet is a title page for Charles Dickens's "Seven Dials" sketch, named for the London district where seven streets meet. It was a crowded, poor quarter of the city that Dickens knew well from his reporting. George Cruikshank, whose signature appears on both illustrations, etched the designs and added watercolor by hand for the 1836 second series of *Sketches by Boz*, published by John Macrone. The catalog also lists balloons and quarreling women among the subjects, which fits the lively street life Dickens wrote about in these early sketches.
