Painted tractor seats hung on a wooden rack make an unusual subject even within a gallery of farm equipment, since the seat was usually the least decorated part of a machine. Seats like these were often cast iron or pressed steel, and the rounded forms of the seat pan and its spring mount give them a sculptural look once they are lifted off the tractor and set on display. Pictures of farm machinery from this period often show parts in use, so an arrangement of detached seats points to a workshop, dealership, or collector's display where the parts were meant to be looked at as objects in their own right.
