Tucked into the rolling hills along the Skyline Drive in Virginia, this farm sits in country that was shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the many small family holdings that worked the land there for generations. Scenes like this one capture a rural way of life that changed dramatically when the federal government acquired mountain land in the 1930s to create Shenandoah National Park, displacing many residents. Pictures of such farmsteads are valuable today because they record the buildings, fences, and fields of a landscape that now looks very different.
