Forbes Field had been open in Pittsburgh only a few months when this view of its exterior was made around 1909. Club owner Barney Dreyfuss built it for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and it was among the first major league ballparks constructed largely of steel and concrete rather than wood. The stadium hosted games of the 1909 World Series that fall, and it remained the Pirates' home until 1970.
