The record gives this negative the title Evers & Plank, but the notes say that title comes from the Bain News Service's own negatives or caption cards and has not been verified, so it may refer to a business, a firm of two partners, or a place. Bain News Service, the New York agency founded by George Grantham Bain around 1899, sold photographs of news events, public figures, buildings and commercial subjects to newspapers and magazines, and its glass negatives later came to the Library of Congress. With no date recorded, this plate is best understood through the agency's working practice, since small glass negatives like this were made quickly for reproduction and many survive with only partial identifying details.
