From the golf links at Sunset Park, the view looks out over the Catskill Mountains, where the ridges and open lawns made the area a favorite summer escape for city visitors. By about 1902, resort hotels in the region were adding golf courses, a sport that was then becoming fashionable among wealthy vacationers. The image is a cyanotype, a blue-toned process first introduced in 1842 that was already old-fashioned by this time, so the choice of method suggests a deliberate, artistic approach rather than a routine snapshot.
