Taken around 1904, this Edward S. Curtis print shows several of Theodore Roosevelt's children at home, with the family's residences noted as its setting. The president's household was large and lively, and his children, who ranged from young boys to a young woman, drew frequent attention in the press, with their pets and games often reported alongside affairs of state. Curtis is best known for his long photographic survey of Native American peoples, but he also made portraits of prominent Americans, and this picture gives a relaxed glimpse of the family life that Roosevelt's public image often kept in the background.
