Issued for the Thanksgiving number of *Sunset* magazine in November 1903, this poster pairs a holiday edition with Stanford University football, the subject named in its record. The Southern Pacific railroad's Passenger Department produced it, and *Sunset* was the company's own publication, used to draw travelers and readers to California. Thanksgiving Day was a common date for college football games in the early 1900s, and Stanford's teams were among the best known in the West, so the sporting scene doubled as an advertisement for the state. The poster was printed by the Sunset Press in San Francisco.
