A color lithograph addressed to men of Highland descent, this poster calls on recruits to join the 173rd Overseas Battalion, Canadian Highlanders. Canada raised many such battalions between 1914 and 1918 to supply the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and many drew their identity from regional or ancestral ties, here the Scottish Highland tradition. Posters like this one were pasted on city streets and in public halls, where their bold color and direct appeal to duty and kinship were meant to draw men to the recruiting office and toward service overseas.
