The caption names Frank Hitchcock and Coleman du Pont, two men active in Republican politics in the early twentieth century, though the record gives no date or setting. Hitchcock served as Postmaster General under William Howard Taft and had chaired the Republican National Committee. Du Pont, a Delaware businessman from the family behind the du Pont chemical company, later served in the U.S. Senate. The Bain News Service, which produced these glass negatives for newspaper use, photographed many officials and business figures, and the identification here comes from its caption cards and has not been independently verified.
