Findlay S. Douglass, shown with a golf club at Baltusrol, places this portrait at one of the best-known private clubs in the New York area. Baltusrol, in Springfield Township, New Jersey, hosted the U.S. Open in 1915, when Jerome Travers won, and it became a regular stop for major championships. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made and distributed pictures like this one for newspapers and magazines, so the image reflects how the press covered golf and its personalities in the 1920s. The title comes from the agency's caption data, which the Library of Congress notes is unverified.
