Few resort hotels in New England can claim a diplomatic milestone, but the Hotel Wentworth on Great Island in New Castle, New Hampshire, can. It hosted the 1905 negotiations that ended the Russo-Japanese War. Named for colonial governor Benning Wentworth, the summer hotel sat above Portsmouth Harbor, and the sailboats on this card point to that waterfront setting. The card also sells the view as much as the building, which was typical of resort postcards of the period.
