The caption on this glass negative credits a photographer named Getz of Baltimore, and the sitter is identified as Lena Gary, a name recorded with the plate by the Bain News Service. That New York agency distributed news and portrait photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its negatives reached the Library of Congress through the George Grantham Bain Collection. The title came from the negative or caption card and has not been independently verified, so the identification and date remain open. The small glass plate format was common for studio portraits of the period, and the image shows how commercial portraits could pass between a local studio and a national picture service.
