The Standfast Club House, shown here in a photograph dated to about October 1921, stands in Jersey City, New Jersey, the industrial port city directly across the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan. The print was made by Irving Underhill, a New York City photographer, and registered for copyright, which suggests it was produced as a commercial photoprint for wide distribution. Because the caption card is the main source for its details, the club's founding and members are not documented here. The image still offers a glimpse of the architecture and street life of a working-class New Jersey neighborhood in the early 1920s.
