The Majestic Theater in Corbin, Kentucky, was built by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal lodge that often financed multipurpose halls in small towns in the early 1900s. Such buildings typically combined lodge meeting rooms with a stage for traveling companies, local performances, and lectures. Corbin, a railroad town in the southeastern part of the state, was growing rapidly around 1908, and this view preserves a record of one of its public entertainment spaces during the years when moving pictures were first reaching towns of its size.
