Harlan Fiske Stone, then serving as Attorney General, appears here before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 28, 1925, during hearings on his nomination to the Supreme Court. The Senate was weighing his record as the Justice Department had handled investigations tied to the Harding-era scandals. The committee and the full Senate confirmed him in early February, and he took his seat that March. The glass negative shows streaks and surface blemishes from the deterioration of its original coatings.
