Our Pride is a crate label built around a bright macaw perched above the fruit, a tropical bird that stands out sharply against the plainer orchard-scene labels that filled the same shelves. Crate labels like this were pasted onto the ends of wooden shipping boxes so that buyers, often in distant cities, could recognize a grower's brand at a glance. Lithographed in vivid color, they turned a practical shipping tag into a small piece of advertising art, and the exotic bird was a way of suggesting that the apples inside were something special.
