Two cherubs drifting on a bank of soft clouds set this card apart from the many snow-covered cabins and holly sprigs that fill the Christmas board. Cherub imagery was a staple of early twentieth-century greeting cards, borrowing the angelic messengers of the Nativity story to signal peace and goodwill at the holiday. Postcards like this one were inexpensive and mailed in large numbers, so they reached households across the country and were often kept in scrapbooks or tucked into albums. Their soft colors and sentimental tone reflect a period when printed holiday greetings were becoming a common way to stay in touch.
