This picture pairs two performers by name: violinist Efrem Zimbalist and soprano Alma Gluck, who were married in 1914. Gluck, a Romanian-born singer, became one of the best-selling recording artists of the early phonograph era, while Zimbalist, a Russian-born violinist, was known for his concert work. Bain News Service, a press photo agency active in New York, produced the glass negative, and the title comes from its caption cards, which the Library of Congress lists as unverified. The record gives no date, so the photograph's exact occasion is unknown.
