Children arriving in Iran, as this caption card describes, were among the Polish refugees evacuated southward around 1942. After a 1941 agreement between the Soviet Union and the Polish government-in-exile, thousands of Poles who had been deported into Soviet territory were moved out through Iran, and many were women, children and orphans. Under Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who had succeeded his father that year, Iran sheltered these refugees in camps across the country. The record's details are unverified, but the scene reflects the wartime displacement of civilian families.
