Its French title, roughly "Let silver and base-metal coins keep circulating," turns the board's war theme toward the home front, where the problem was everyday commerce rather than the battlefield. By 1918 the war had pulled small change out of French pockets, as people hoarded coins whose metal they trusted more than paper, and shopkeepers struggled to make change. Campaigns urging citizens to spend and return their coins were one way governments and local authorities tried to keep daily trade moving while the fighting continued.
