Boston's American League club, the team that would later be called the Red Sox, is the subject here, captured during the 1904 season. The American League was only four years old at the time, having begun play in 1901, and it was still fighting for credibility against the older National League. Boston's team had already won the first modern World Series in 1903, so by 1904 the franchise was a source of civic pride. Panoramic views like this one let viewers take in the whole squad and its surroundings at once, which was a striking novelty for baseball photography of the era.
